BLANCA Honeysuckle

Blanca Honeysuckle brings the flavours and coastal character of Greece, Sicily and Turkey to Newcastle’s Honeysuckle district. The family-owned restaurant was created by Garry and Mel, with a focus on shared meals, welcoming service and a relaxed place to meet, talk and enjoy a drink. Its position beside Newcastle Harbour gives the venue an appealing waterfront setting, with the restaurant sitting next to sister venue The Kingfish Honeysuckle and opposite Honeysuckle Hotel.

The food draws on Mediterranean traditions while giving familiar European dishes a contemporary touch. Blanca works with local producers, and its house-made starters include coal-fired flatbread and burek. A named standout is the grilled octopus, served with spiced chickpeas, lemon, oregano and romesco sauce. The menu is designed as a broader exploration of Mediterranean cooking rather than a single regional style, making it a useful option for diners who enjoy ordering across the table and sharing different flavours.

Drinks are an important part of the experience. The cocktail list takes inspiration from the shaken pours of Turkish meyhane, Greek island beach bars and other Mediterranean settings, while classic cocktails are also available. The wine list is put together with the help of a local sommelier. Blanca’s own description of the space centres on long conversations, laughter, shared food and a sunset drink, so it should suit a relaxed date, a catch-up or an evening built around cocktails and dinner.

The restaurant also caters for larger occasions, with group bookings, functions and private venue hire available by enquiry. A set menu is required for bookings of 11 or more, and groups of 15 or more cannot split the bill; drinks can be managed through a bar tab or pay-on-consumption arrangement. Smaller bookings can be made online, while larger groups should contact the venue directly. With its shared-dining focus and Mediterranean menu, Blanca is particularly suited to celebrations and social gatherings where the meal is part of the occasion.
