Colour Dot Coffee brings a thoughtful, flavour-led approach to coffee to Merewether, Newcastle. It is a passion project from a long-serving coffee professional, built around the idea that specialty coffee can create a kind of synesthetic experience: flavours, texture and intensity are represented through colour as well as taste. That gives the venue a clear point of difference without taking the focus away from the coffee itself.

The coffee is sourced through B-Corp certified importers, with an emphasis on ethical practices and respect for the people involved at origin. Colour Dot says its coffees are roasted for clean, clear flavours rather than heavy burnt notes, with options selected for their brightness and colour. They are intended to be enjoyed black, while still offering enough sweetness and balance to work well with milk. Espresso and filter are both part of the offering, making the shop suitable for a quick coffee stop or for anyone who likes to spend time comparing different brewing styles.

A signature option is the Foundation Blend, designed to provide a balanced base, body and lift in the cup. Its listed flavour profile includes cherry cola, golden syrup, apple, red currants and lemon, with coffees from Bolivia, Colombia and Peru contributing to the blend. It is available in 250g and 1kg sizes, so visitors can either try it at the shop or take it home. The blend is intended to suit both milk coffee and black coffee, giving it broad appeal without losing the clarity Colour Dot is aiming for.

The colour-dot system is central to the project. The dots are used as visual guides to elements such as taste, structure, intensity, mouthfeel and key flavours, helping communicate what to expect from each coffee. Colour Dot also points to Frothers Espresso in Merewether as the birthplace of the concept and a place to enjoy its coffee, while its own Merewether location is described as the new flagship.
