Cstudios Art Gallery

Cstudios Art Gallery is a light-filled contemporary and fine art space in Newcastle West, located at 518 Hunter Street. Its programme brings together exhibitions by artists from Newcastle, elsewhere in Australia and internationally, with work spanning two-dimensional, three-dimensional, digital, contemporary and fine art. The gallery supports artists at different stages of their careers, giving established practitioners and emerging talent a place to present their work.

The gallery’s exhibition programme changes regularly, with monthly exhibitions listed alongside workshops and classes. Recent and upcoming listings include Family Affair, a collaborative exhibition featuring Ted Prior, Lucy Prior and Elizabeth Shoebridge, as well as Artsiders’ Broad Brush. Exhibition openings are promoted separately, so visitors should check the gallery’s social media or contact the team for the latest programme before visiting.

The space is designed around natural light, large wall areas and adaptable display equipment, including movable partitions, plinths and an easy-hanging system. This makes it suitable for a varied programme and allows paintings, sculpture, digital work and other formats to be shown in a considered setting. Cstudios sits within Newcastle’s West End precinct, surrounded by restaurants, cafes, parks, educational institutions and other creative spaces, making it easy to include in a broader cultural outing.

Jo Chisholm-Ray established Cstudios in 2013 with a focus on bringing contemporary and fine art to Newcastle’s evolving West End. Alongside exhibitions, the gallery offers regular classes and workshops, gallery talks for school and community groups, and career-practice coaching and mentoring for artists, including HSC art students. That mix makes it relevant both to visitors who want a quiet solo gallery visit and to creative groups, students and artists looking for a place to learn, meet and engage with local art. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 3pm, with exhibition openings advertised separately.
