Why it's worth checking out

Dutchmans Beach Reserve, known locally as Dutchies Beach, is a relaxed coastal reserve in Nelson Bay, Newcastle, with calm water for swimming and sand for building sandcastles. Its sheltered setting, tucked away from the bustle of the town centre, makes it a practical spot for an easy beach outing.

The reserve combines beach access with grassy picnic areas, BBQs, picnic tables and a children’s playground. Families have plenty to do between swimming, playing on the sand and using the open space, while the facilities make it suitable for a casual picnic or a longer visit. Public amenities, an outdoor shower, car parking and dinghy storage are also provided.

For walkers and cyclists, a path follows the water into Nelson Bay, with views across the water. Heading west, it continues towards Bagnalls Beach and Corlette, with access to the Bartlett cycleway. The reserve can also be booked for events or private ceremonies through Port Stephens Council, subject to the relevant application process.
