Maitland Community Markets

Maitland Community Markets bring a monthly local market day to Maitland Showground in South Maitland, with more than 100 stalls spread across indoor and outdoor areas. Held on the first Sunday of each month from March to December, the markets provide a regular opportunity to browse handmade goods, homegrown produce and locally made products away from shopping centres. Food trucks, entertainment areas and quieter spaces are also part of the setup, making the showground suitable for a relaxed visit at your own pace.

The market is hosted by the Hunter River Agricultural & Horticultural Association, a not-for-profit community organisation. Stallholder fees help run the markets and maintain the showground, so visiting also supports the work behind this long-running community venue. The stallholder mix is deliberately broad, ranging from local home-based businesses and makers to farmers and backyard gardeners. That variety means the selection changes with the people who attend, rather than following a fixed retail format.

Maitland Showground offers plenty of room for the market, with 84 acres available across the site and a combination of covered and open-air stall areas. Dogs are welcome, provided they remain on a lead and are cleaned up after. Visitors should bring cash because there is no ATM onsite, although many stallholders accept EFTPOS. The markets are accessible by road, and the website notes that Newcastle and Hunter Valley visitors can also travel to the showground by train.

The published 2026 dates include Sunday 6 September, Sunday 4 October, Sunday 1 November, an additional market on Sunday 15 November, and Sunday 6 December, with trading listed from 9am to 1pm.
