Barley Sugar Day Spa & Beauty is a small day spa in Salamander Bay, in the beachside Port Stephens area near Nelson Bay. Its focus is on relaxing, pampering beauty and body treatments, making it suited to a solo self-care appointment or a treatment during a Port Stephens holiday. The spa is run by three Diploma-qualified Beauty Therapists, each with an interest in beauty and wellness.

The treatment menu includes several massage styles. Revitalising Swedish massage is available in 30-, 60- and 90-minute appointments, with therapists able to concentrate on particular areas of concern. A bespoke massage can be tailored to individual preferences, including the option of hot stones and aromatherapy oils. There is also a relaxing hot stone massage using warm volcanic stones, as well as an aromatherapy massage combining massage techniques with essential oils.

For more than massage, the spa offers body treatments and wraps designed around exfoliation, moisturising and relaxation. The Back Facial includes cleansing, exfoliation, a mask and a moisturising massage, while the Salt Crystal Body Polish uses a salt scrub and warm towels before moisturiser is applied. The Aromatherapy Body Wrap adds a scalp, neck and shoulder massage, and the longer Nourishing Body Butter Treatment includes a body mask and massage. A Red Clay Thermal Body Wrap combines a red clay mask with peppermint oil, followed by a hydration massage.

Couples can book treatments at the same time, although the spa has single treatment rooms rather than a dedicated couples room. Massage enhancements, subject to time, include an infrared sauna, a hand or foot massage, a foot scrub and massage, and a mini facial. Pregnancy and remedial massage are not offered. Clients under 18 need written parental consent, so families should check those requirements before booking. Appointments can be made online, by phone or through social media, with gift vouchers also available.
