Bob Cairns Reserve

Bob Cairns Reserve is a foreshore reserve at the corner of Cook Street and Foreshore Drive in Salamander Bay, listed here for visitors exploring the Nelson Bay area. It sits beside a sandy beach, combining a shaded grassed area with open foreshore surroundings.

The reserve has practical facilities for a relaxed outdoor visit, including public amenities, barbecue and picnic facilities, and play equipment. Its shaded grass area provides space to settle in, while the adjacent beach adds to the coastal setting.

The reserve is named after Bob Cairns, a community volunteer who cared for the space. Bob and his wife moved to Salamander Bay in retirement and spent their later years contributing to the local community, giving the reserve a meaningful connection to the people who helped look after it.

Council bookings are available for events, and the reserve can also be used for a private ceremony through the relevant application process. Visitors can reach it from Salamander Shopping Centre by travelling west along Salamander Way, turning at the Port Stephens Drive roundabout and then left into Foreshore Drive.
