Watershed Gallery

Watershed Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Pokolbin, created as a place for Hunter Valley locals and visitors to view, purchase and engage with art and artists. Its exhibitions and stock are described as continually changing, with work from a diverse group of professional artists and a range of styles rather than a single fixed artistic approach.

The gallery occupies a purpose-designed space on the former Possums Retreat site, completed in 2019 after the owners worked with SDA Architects on several design concepts. The setting reflects the couple’s connection to the surrounding wine region, while the gallery’s aim is to provide an inviting place for people to spend time with contemporary art. Lyn Hammond’s recent work draws on aspects of the local area, interpreted through her individual artistic perspective.

Watershed Gallery is run by Ron and Lyn Hammond. Lyn has worked as a professional artist, art teacher and gallery owner, including more than 13 years as co-owner of Artfocus Gallery in Sydney. Ron brings more than three decades of experience in signage and graphic design, including work creating spaces and branding for premium automotive brands. Their combined experience gives the gallery a clear connection to both art-making and the design of exhibition spaces. It suits visitors looking to add an art-focused stop to a Hunter Valley outing, as well as locals wanting to return to see what has changed.
